Instructor Profile - Miss Teresa Hi! I am Teresa Swan. I should start off by telling you that I am Jennifer Hill's cousin, so naturally I love the water. My mom adopted me from China in 1995. I started swimming early in life. My mom took me to “Mommy and I have worked at The Swim Center since 2008 when Jennifer let me come in as a 13 yr old assistant. I picked up my Lifeguard certification at 15 in 2010 and am now a fully certified 16 year old Water Safety Instructor, FINALLY! I love working with children and adults. I really enjoy teaching the Water Babies classes. I love to watch the children who started swimming in a Water Babies class come back year after year advancing through all the upper level classes! My most challenging task was probably when I was 14 and had a little autistic boy who was non-verbal sign up for private lessons with me. At first, I didn't know how to teach him or what to do. I learned that through play, he would learn. By the end of the summer, he was swimming all over the pool without any assistance. It was awesome and I learned a lot from him. His teachers are still amazed every time they get to see him swim at school. If Mrs. Jennifer would let me, I’d spend my entire day at the pool teaching people how to swim! When I do get some free time, I play volleyball and swim. I am on the volleyball team at Woodland High School. I’m also an assistant volleyball coach at Austin Road Middle School. During the winter months, I swim for SMART (Smart Motivated Athletic Respectful Teammate). The SMART swim program keeps me in shape and works on all my strokes. My best stroke is the breast stroke. I can’t wait to see you in the pool! |
